Speakers at the celebration included University Presi dent Dave Frohnmayer, Senior Vice President and Provost John Moseley, Athletics Director Bill Moos, former Eugene mayor Jim Torrey, former Oregon State University President John Byrne and Williams’ two sons, Tim and Patrick. Ducks sportscasterJerry Al ven served as the event's emcee. "Dan truly understands all of our roles in the administration, and that is that we are here to serve students and educate stu dents," Moseley said. Speakers called the event both a toast and a roast, with Vice Presi dent for Academic Affairs Lorraine Davis laughing about Wilttems’ love for afternoon naps and his relationship with the media. “We all know that Dan is an honest guy. You ask him a direct question, you get a direct answer," Davis said. "Unfortunately all the media in Oregon know that too." Moos spoke of Williams’ accomplishments as interim athletics di rector during the 1994-95 school year. “Dan came in and with his great talent got Oregon to the Rose Bowl for the first time in 37 years," Moos said. "I am reminded each spring in my annual re view: Bill, you’ve done a good job, but you haven’t gotten us to the Rose Bowl." Williams' younger brother, Rick, who attended the cel ebration, once told the Emerald his older brother should be induct ed into the University’s sports hall of fame for his work as athletics director, but Williams says he was merely in the right position at the right time. A public celebration of Williams’ career will be held from 2 p.m. to 4 p.m. June 9 in the lecture hall of the Jordan Schnitzer Museum of Art. -Meghann M. Cuniff 032418) It's All About You!
