Community activist and self-proclaimed "Moss Street Defender" Zachary Vishanoff stood at the East 13th Avenue entrance to campus
Wednesday afternoon to inform students and faculty about what he said are the destructive University policies threatening the east cam
P.us neighborhood. The sign admonishes University Housing Director Mike Eyster and University President Dave Frohnmayer for what
Vishanoff said is their determination to remove all houses in the east campus area.
IN BRIEF
Senate panel rejects
concealed weapons bill
SALEM — A Senate panel shot
down a bill Thursday that would
have authorized school districts to
bar concealed weapons permit
holders from taking guns to schools.
The Senate Judiciary Committee
defeated the measure on a
4-3 count, with Sen. Floyd Prozans
ki, D-Eugene, joining the commit
tee’s three Republicans in voting
against it.
The measure was a priority for
Sen. Ginny Burdick, D-Portland, the
committee’s chairwoman and the
Legislature’s most outspoken gun
control advocate.
