applications lor potential graduate teaching fellowships
lor 2005-06.
QUALIFICATIONS:
1) Admission to a University of Oregon graduate progrant.
2) Substantial background in women’s and gender studies.
3) Experience in group process.
4) Record of academic excellence and/or important
experience in women’s and gender issues.
5) Strong interdisciplinary background.
6) Cross-cultural sensitivity.
7) Ability to work independently.
The successful candidate will teach two or three introductory women’s and gen
der studies courses during the year. Responsibilities include syllabus design,
lectures, selection and supervision of facilitators for discussion groups, office
hours, weekly sessions for facilitators, participation in a pedagogy seminar, and
evaluation and grading of students’ performance. Lectures are scheduled on
Tuesdays and Thursdays.
Salary is determined by the GTFF bargaining contract, which mandates salary
ranges based on academic level. In the academic year 2004-05, salaries ranged
from $10,519 to $11,113 at .49 FTE. The fellowship includes a tuition waiver
for the full academic year.

Application forms can be obtained by writing to the Women’s and Gender
Studies Program, 315 Hendricks Hall, University of Oregon, Eugene, OR,
97403-1298; by calling (541) 346-5529; or by leaving a request at
wst@oregon.uoregon.edu. Applications must include transcripts, at least two let
ters of recommendation, a statement by the candidate outlining interests, quali
fications, and future goals in women's and gender studies, a rough outline of
topics and readings the candidate would cover in an introductory course and, if
available, teaching evaluations from any previously taught courses. Applicants
may choose from a variety of textbooks and may choose to use the on-line data
base Reading Women's Lives (Pearson Custom Publishing). Samples of syllabi
and of the textbooks are available in the Women’s and Gender Studies Office.
The complete application must be filed at the Women’s and Gender Studies
Program office, 315 Hendricks. Open until positions are filled, however
review of applications will begin Wednesday March 9th. Finalists will be
interviewed and announcement of the appointments made by March 16.
Women’s and Gender Studies seeks to employ a diverse group of instructors.
