Governor fields
student questions
on public service
Ted Kulongoski gave a speech Friday encouraging
law students to do public interest and pro bono work

Governor Ted Kulongoski touted the
importance of public interest law and
set forth ideas to overcome obstacles
faced by many law students hoping to
work in public service Friday.
“The more law students who do
public interest law or pro bono work
— they can go to a large firm but they
actually contribute time,” Kulongoski
said. “I think that they do a great serv
ice for themselves, for the law profes
sion and for the state of Oregon. ”
Kulongoski spoke to about 100 stu
dents at the law school, spending more
than half of the hour-long event field
ing questions from law students re
garding public interest law.
The event was organized by the law
school’s Public Interest Public Service
program. PIPS co-chairman Josh Reed
said more than one-third of the Univer
sity’s graduating law classes goes into
jobs for the public interest.
