I have to admit, I truly delight in the miseries
of the rich and famous. Class warfare, envy,
shadenfreud celebe, call it what you will. I take
few simpler pleasures than that of the humilia
tion and loss of those more popular, talented
and financially endowed than myself. Brad and
Jen break up? Good, screw 'em. Prince Harry

plastered all overthe tabloids? Ha! Stupid up

knocked up? Excellent, no more albums for at
least a year or two.
To be honest, I have come to truly despise
these people. It might be odd for me to say
that because I don't personally know any of
them, but then again people fall completely in

Jerel, "Jerel": The new four-song, self-titled EP from the Seattle band Jerel takes up the forgotten form of swamp
rock and mixes it together with an eclectic list of influences. Featuring plenty of metal crunch and some chilling bass
work, the band manages to carve some interesting music out of its basic rock lineup by adding banjos, keyboards and
harmonicas for the occasional flavor.
The EP's firsttrack, "Garden Eve," starts things off right with a groovy bass line underpinning some bluesy southern
rock, ft's a sweettrack and a definite pick should the band come by the funds for an album anytime soon. "Jimmy
Maug" adds a nice hard guitar crunch to go along with the distorted vocals—very Alice in Chainy in a Lynyrd Skynyrd
kind of way.
The Skynyrd influence really comes through on the ballad "Underground." It's a little cheesy, but it ends on a nice
note. The follow-up and EP closer, "Heat Her," is a nice finish to a delightful 12 minutes of music. Based on what sounds
like a converted Pink Floyd (sounds a lot like "Money"), the song is a sweet little piece of blues groove.
Overall, this is a fine piece of work. Let's hope the band gets it into their heads to pull out something longer in the near
future. Word on the street is that they will perform atthe Samarai Duck on Feb. 3,
