Smith: Oregon fans should
be ready for unpredictability
Continued from page 5A
from Mac Court, Cathrine Kraayeveld
and Co. could be on the verge of a
magical season.
Remember, A.I.P.
The only problem with anything is
that everything (Murphy’s Law) has
the potential of happening and for
some reason, the situation the Ducks
are in, everything (Murphy’s Law)
seems to happen with greater
frequency.
So Duck fans, prepare.
Prepare for gray hairs (I would just
shave mine off anyway), premature
wrinkles and age lines.
Keep track of how many years you
have on this earth because you might
possibly lose a few by March.
Get a squeeze ball.
Tty not to punch anything too solid
(unless you want to pull an Aaron
Brooks).
Tty not to throw full beverage con
tainers either in your own house or at
the television in the bar. Have pre-de
termined, sacrificial objects that
will suffice.
Finally, have passion but please,
also have patience.
So with that in mind, take your seat
in your favorite recliner (or your
friend’s, whichever works for you), bar
or sports bar (Rennie’s), bleacher (Mac
Court) and get ready for one of the
more unpredictable Pac-10 seasons in
recent memory.
After all, it should be a blast.
No matter how maddening it
could be.

Horoscope by Holiday Mathis
TODAY'S BIRTHDAY (January 7). Your excel
lent self-care attracts the best to you this year.
This month features life-changing educational
opportunities! Loved ones learn from you, and
their success contributes to your success.
Clear out any communication trouble, and get
your living arrangement in order this month.
Change your financial plan in March for a wind
fall in June. Your lucky numbers are: 9,20,41,
29 and 22.
ARIES (March 21 -April 19) Believe in your tal
ent. Beware of the trap of becoming an arm
chair philosopher or poet when you could rise
to the level of a practicing artist. All of the re
wards go to those who are willing to dig in and
do the work.
TAURUS (April 20-May 20). It's a big challenge
to break out of your fixed mind-set now. It
seems that things are as they have been eter
nally and as they will remain forever. Being
around a mentally bendy Aquarius or Libra is
the remedy.
GEMINI (May 21 -June 21). It's go-go-go time.
The pace is fast, so not only are mistakes ig
nored, they are also of little consequence. The
quantity of production outweighs its quality in
the end. This evening brings riotous fun.
CANCER (June 22-July 22). Young people
learn quickly because they have no precon
ceived notions. It's impossible to learn what
you think you know already. A relationship can
blossom when you stop anticipating the other
person's next move.
LEO (July 23-Aug. 22). Everybody loves a
shortcut, and you'll find one that many would
benefit knowing. Keep it to yourself for a while,
though. Your expertise is well earned, and oth
ers will respect it more when you don't share
so readily.
VIRGO (Aug. 23-Sept. 22). Sweet gestures and
kind words are exchanged. Friendships devel
op when you reach out because you want to,
not because you've got anything in particular
to gain from the interaction.
LIBRA (Sept. 23-0ct. 23). You're a dear; you're
a doll; you're a pal! And this is why so much of
your time is at other people's disposal. No one
is going to think you're the bad guy if you say,
"I wish I could help you, but I can't!*
SCORPIO (Oct. 24-Nov. 21). The stars remind
you of the physical limitations we all share.
Since you can't create more time in the day, in
order to improve your life, you'll have to create
more value. Aim for a bigger accomplishment.
SAGITTARIUS (Nov. 22-Dec. 21). Anywhere
people gather to work on health is fabulous for
your love life. If you are in a relationship, rein
forcing your commitment to health makes you
feel sexy. And if single, you'll meet others with
like values.
CAPRICORN (Dec. 22-Jan. 19). It seems that
your mood depends solely on how a key rela
tionship is going for you. It's time to take the
power back that you're so readily giving away.
Feast at life's table instead of settling for the
crumbs on the floor!
AQUARIUS (Jan. 20-Feb. 18). Ask for more -
just for the heck of it! People are surprisingly
agreeable to your requests. The experiences
you gathered from dating Mr./Ms. Wrong will
help you make the most of tonight's adventure.
PISCES (Feb. 19-March 20). Your self-concept
is going through another one of those incre
mental changes. Experiment by thinking, talk
ing and dressing differently. Discovering a new
aspect of yourself is like happening on a
sunken treasure!
