A battle of unbeaten teams takes
place at Sun Devil Stadium
when Arizona State looks for re
venge against No. 16 Iowa (2-0
overall) Saturday.
The Sun Devils (2-0) traveled to
Iowa City last year and took an early 2
0 lead but lost to the Hawkeyes 21-2.
“They are a top 15 team and a
very well-coached team that doesn’t
beat themselves,” Arizona State
head coach Dirk Koetter said. “They
are relatively conservative on of
fense compared to what we’ve
played the last two weeks.”
Arizona State will be facing
its second consecutive Big Ten Con
ference opponent. Last week, the
Sun Devils took care of business
on the road, disposing of North
western 31-20.

touchdown passes. He also has a
chance for the Pacific-10 Conference
record of 77 touchdown passes set
by NFL Hall of Fame quarterback
John Elway while at Stanford.
Walter is also just 827 yards away
from passing Plummer’s Sun Devil
record of 8,827 career passing yards
and will surely move up from his
19th place on the Pac-10 all-time list.
Not only has Walter been throw
ing for a lot of yards, but he has also
been accurate. The Sun Devil signal
caller hasn’t thrown an interception
in his first two games. His streak
goes back to last year of 118

The Bruins and Huskies kick off the Pac-10 season,
while the No. 1 Trojans travel to battle BYU

ference portion of the schedule final
ly begins this week.
The first conference game of the
season will take place Saturday when
UCLA visits Washington at Husky
Stadium. However, the seven other
Pac-10 teams slated to play will con
tinue playing non-conference oppo
nents this weekend.
Stanford is the only Pac-10 team on
a bye week, and their next game will
be on Sept. 25 against USC.
UCLA (1-1 overall)
at Washington (0-1)
Behind a strong offensive per
formance last weekend, UCLA now
faces the Huskies in Seattle.
The Bruins totaled 481 yards in
their 35-17 victory over Illinois on the
road last weekend. It was the highest
offensive output, in terms of total
yardage, under the tenure of UCLA
second-year head coach Karl Dorrell.
Washington’s defense gave up 137
rushing yards in their 35-16 loss to
Fresno State. The Huskies’ offense
struggled just as much after throwing
for two interceptions, along with one
fumble, that resulted in three Fresno
State touchdowns.
In the two teams’ history, UCLA
leads the series 33-28-2 with the Bru
ins having won the last three games
against the Huskies.

at Brigham Young (1 -1)
In their first trip ever to Provo, Utah,
the Ttojans put their 11-game winning
streak on the line against BYU.
This game will mark the return of
USC offensive coordinator Norm
Chow to BYU, where he spent 27
years (1973-99) as an assistant coach.
In their first ever meeting last sea
son, the Trojans defeated BYU 35-18
in Los Angeles.
USC is coming off a dominating 49-0
win at home against Colorado State
last weekend. BYU lost to Stanford 37
10 at home last Saturday night.
