Art museum receives
$50,000 grant
The Institute of Museum and Li
brary Services has given the University
Jordan Schnitzer Museum of Art a
$50,000 grant to pay for new
storage racks to display works by
American, European and Asian artists.
The art museum will install the
state-of-the-art racks in its newly ex
panded and renovated facility when
the $14.2 million construction
project is complete.
"This grant will help protect
this important segment of the
collection as it is installed in a new
climate-controlled space in the ex
panded museum, " Museum of Art
Registrar Jean Nattinger said. "The
improved storage conditions ex
ceed the rigorous standards other
museums require when lending
works of art."

too much of a potential burden
to handle.
In any case, the head coach, who
has one of the toughest last names to
r
pronounce and spell, decided that
staying in college and declining $8
million a year was the right choice.
And who could blame him?
I'he Duke men's basketball pro
gram will always attract the top
high school recruits as long as
Krzyzewski is there, while the
Lakers could potentially lose two of
the top basketball players in the
league today — Kobe Bryant and
Shaquille O'Neal.
I he right decision was made.

it will mark the second time Mal
one has competed at the Olympic
Trials after qualifying in her senior
year at Newberg High School in
2000. She finished eighth in her
qualifying bracket at 156-11, but
Malone said the experience was
"overwhelming" back then.
"It's been nice to have that back
ground and know what to expect,"
said Malone, who finished third with
a mark of 178-1 at this year's NCAA
Championships.
However, Malone said there is a
"very slight chance" of her earning a
spot on the U.S. Olympic squad. Her
invite to the Trials is based on her per
sonal best of 179-7 from the Texas Re
lays meet in early April. The mark is
the sixth best outdoor mark in the
country this year. In order to make the
U.S. team, Malone has to meet the
Olympic 'A' qualifying standard,
which sits at 203-10.
"It's probably not attainable right
now," Malone said.
Malone said she will use this week
as a "learning experience" against the
top hurlers in the nation, including
this year's NCAA javelin champion
Katy Doyle (185-7).
Mitchum, who will compete in the
110-meter hurdles, finished second at
the NCAA Championships with a
school record of 13.38 seconds. He
competes at 12:35 p.m.on July 17.
11 is school record, which is also a
personal record, meets the Olympic
A qualifying standard of 13.54.
Mitchum's time also ties him with
Michah Harris for the 14;h best in the
nation this year.
At the Prefontaine Classic,
Mitchum finished sixth at 13.66 and
was the only collegiate athlete com
peting in the event.
