The Student Senate formed the
Senate Rules Committee at its
last meeting of the school year
Wednesday night

In its final meeting of the academic
year, the ASUO Student Senate tackled
several special requests, changed lead
ership and formed the summer-session
Senate Rules Committee on Wednes
day evening.
After brief presentations, Senate mem
bers elected Sen. Rodrigo Moreno Villa
mar as summer-session Senate president
and Sen. James George as vice president
During his presentation to the Senate,
Moreno Villamar said his primary goals
are to foster increased participation with
Senate, especially with groups that typi
cally do not have a voice.
"A lot of aspects within the Senate
structure have been left unseen," said
Moreno Villamar, who brings four
terms' worth of experience. "I want to
make everybody comfortable with
voicing their opinions." Both Moreno
Villamar and George acknowledged the
limited capacity of summer Senate,
however. ASUO Accounting Coordina
tor Jennifer Creighton- Neiwert, who
has aided the Senate for six years, had
similar sentiments.
"Summer Senate just works in the ca
pacity of a committee in a sense,"
Creighton-Neiwert said in a phone in
terview. "They don't represent the entire
Senate." After electing officers, the Sen
ate unanimously approved all but one
of the night's special requests. Hawaii
Club's request for about $380 in sur
plus incidental-fee funds for the pur
chase of office supplies sparked debate
about from where the club would get
the supplies.
