Peabody's Pub: As cozy as a lakeside lodge
Reviewed by Andy Holland and Kris Dicharry
As college students, we’re looking for an inexpensive
meal, cheap, stiff drinks and a fun, laid-back atmosphere.
Peabody’s Pub is just the ticket. Upon entering, we were
greeted by the bartender, who quickly helped us find a
comfortable table near the fireplace.
The atmosphere at Peabody’s reminded us of a cozy lake
side lodge where, no matter whether you’re a regular or a
tourist, you always feel welcome. There’s an area for darts, a
stage for live music and a fireplace that provides a great place
to sit and relax with a drink. The staff was very friendly and
was able to answer all the questions we had about the food
as they moved about the room making conversation with
other guests, many of whom seemed to be regulars.
We decided to start with some appetizers, including
mozzarella sticks, chicken strips, onion rings and breaded
mushrooms. All of the appetizers were great and were
prepared with Peabody’s secret recipe breading.
Their menu features a variety of inexpensive hamburgers,
sandwiches and steaks. Everything on the menu is under $8,
which is great for the average college student on a budget,
especially with the amount of food that comes with each
meal. For $5.25, Kris tried the California burger loaded with
fresh sliced avocado, pepper jack cheese, all the regular ham
burger extras and fries. For $6.25,1 had the lightly seasoned
nine-ounce Cajun steak and fries (regular steaks are only
$5.95). Both meals provided a balance of flavors and my
steak was delicately seasoned, juicy and cooked perfectly to
my specifications. Kris’ burger was flavorful and filling with
out being too greasy and we both enjoyed the hearty portions
of fries that came with each of our meals.
Peabody’s also has a full bar featuring $1.75 well drinks
all night, every night and a good selection of domestic beers
and microbrews.
Our night out at Peabody’s Pub was very enjoyable and
satisfying. The atmosphere was relaxing and easy-going and
best of all - the entire experience was easy on the pocket
book. Peabody’s is located at 444 E. Third Ave., phone
number is 484-2927.
