    Conference's trio
ready for tourney

Stanford earned a top seed
Sunday when the NCAA
Tournament brackets were
announced on television

Just three teams from the Pacific
10 Conference made the NCAA
Tournament when the brackets were
announced
Sunday.
That's the
worst showing
for the confer
ence since the
1992-93 sea
son when Arizona, California and
UCLA were deemed worthy of the Big
Dance.
Nevertheless, the Pac-10 is expected
to be a player in this season's tourna
ment. Stanford, as expected, earned a
No. 1 seed, while Washington and
Arizona were both put into positions
to succeed.
No. 1 Stanford (29-1 overall)
vs. No. 16 Texas San-Antonio
(20-12)
A day after avenging a loss to Wash
ington with a win over the Huskies in
the Pac-10 Tournament, Stanford
earned the No. 1 seed in the Phoenix
section of the tournament.
"We wanted to avenge our only loss
of the season," Stanford's Josh Chil
dress told reporters after the game. "I
was fired up. I'm definitely glad we got
to play them again."
Childress reigns as the Pac- 10's Player
of the Year and is joined by a more
than-competent cast. Matt Lottich, Joe
Kirchofer and Justin Davis, among oth
ers, all have played key roles this season.
What to watch: Davis has suffered
from a right knee injury all season
long. He saw action in the Pac-10

Stanford gets a No. 6 seed

One thing was apparent after Sun
day's NCAA Women's Basketball Tour
nament selection show: The Pacific-10
Conference isn't considered one of the
nation's best.
Only three teams from the
conference will participate in the Big
Dance, with only one seeded better
than eighth.

and winners of

tournament, received a No. 6 seed in
