CORNERBACK
continued from page 3B
"1 le's a confident dude," Moore said of Bau
man. "It seemed like when he played, he played
like no one can beat him, and no one is better
than him.
"That made me better as player; just being
around him. As a comer, you have to have the
attitude that nobody can beat you, and if you
don't, then you can't be out there."
Moore and Bauman still talk on a regular
basis — usually once every couple of weeks.
They've stayed friends despite Bauman's
presence with Washington of the NFL, lo
cated approximately 3,000 miles away
from Eugene.
"1 Ie'll tell me what to look for in game, how
to play certain things," Moore said. "He'll give
me little tips here and there on how to play
certain receivers. 1 Ie helps me out a lot."
The way Moore has played in 2003 would
show that he has taken Bauman's talks to
heart. Moore has picked off two passes this
season, and has broken up three more.
Where opposing quarterbacks were not
afraid to throw to him last season, they've be
gun to shy away from his direction this season.
He's also added another dimension this
season that was taken away from the Ducks
when Keenan Howry graduated after last
season. Moore is returning punts for Ore
gon, averaging 12.1 yards per return, includ
ing a 61-yarder against Michigan that result
ed in a touchdown.
He is doing it all for Oregon this season,
having learned from the best. All that's left
for Moore is to prove the Ducks' secondary
is on the rise.
"We're a lot more physical; a lot more in
tense," Moore said. "I think having John Neal
here has really boosted our confidence, and he
believes in us. He's not scared to put it on the
line for us. That alone has set a tone for our de
fensive secondary this season.
"We're going to get better every week,"
Moore said. "We're not done yet."

OREGON

quarterback had been picked off in
Oregon's first four games.
Although Clemens has started all
five games for Oregon, the two have
split playing time.
Fife has led the team to seven
touchdowns and one field goal on 26
drives. On the flip side, Clemens has
led 51 drives for 12 touchdowns and
three field goals.
The last time the Ducks met Utah
was at Autzen Stadium in 2001. Ore
gon prevailed for a 24-10 win.
The Utes (3-1, 1-0 Mountain West
Conference) have had early-season
success, including a 31-24 win over
California, the only Pac-10 team
they've played this season.
"We're playing one of the top teams
in the country in Oregon," Utah head
coach Urban Meyer said. "The biggest
thing this week is staying fresh."
Since the game is on Friday, both
teams had a shortened week of prac
tice and preparation for the game.
"We've got to prepare the same,"
Oregon free safety Keith I,ewis said.
"We've got to look at it as a high school
game — everybody here used to play
on Fridays in high school. That's the
way we've got to go about it."
