Kellen Clemens
sophomore quarterback
Burns, Ore.
6'2”, 210 lbs.
Oregon quarterback Kellen Clemens has directed the Ducks' offense without
missing a step in his four starts this season. The sophomore from Bums has
passed for 729 yards, while completing 50 of his 85 passes. He has also run for
32 yards in Oregon's four wins, and accounts for 190.2 yards per game of Ore
gon offense. He has demonstrated a renewed sense of confidence after strug
gling last season, and has shown the ability to scramble out of the pocket only
when needed. Against the Cougars, Clemens needs to get off to a fast start.
Washington State has been susceptible to the big play, but has been able to
maintain a 3-1 record with key defensive stops. l ie will again split time with
senior Jason Fife, but that hasn't hampered
him yet. And here's no reason to believe
that will happen now.
Yes, a kicker will be key for Washington State at Autzen Stadium on Saturday.
Drew Dunning has connected on 13 field goals this season in just 14 attempts;
his only miss coming in the Cougars' 29-26 overtime loss to Notre Dame. Dun
ning leads the nation with 3.25 field goals per game on average and sits 10th in
the nation in points per game at 11.75. Against the Ducks, the senior will be
come a key player as special teams have been an increasingly important focus.
After Oregon blocked a punt and an extra point against Michigan, a field goal
miss could haunt Washington State. If the
Cougars can keep the game close, it
could come down to a battle between
Dunning and Oregon's Jared Siegel.
What a battle that would be.
