around football player.
"lie's a great leader for our team,"
Radcliffe said. "He wants to be the
first one down the field to make a
tackle and he's always inspired. A lot
of people don't think of a kicker be
ing in a leadership role, but because
of the way he approaches his job and
this team, I think he is a leader."
Siegel's numbers appear deserving
of respect in their own right. He fin
ished the 2002 season third in the
league in scoring (8.4 avg.) and 13th
in the country in field goals made per
game (1.54 avg ).
Siegel has already set a school
record for career PATs (100), as well
as most consecutive field goals made
(15). He also owns a share of the
Ducks' record for consecutive kicks
converted at 54.
And although he has had his
share of accomplishments, Siegel is
by no means satisfied with two
years of eligibility left.
"Individually I want to be better
than I was last year and be a more con
sistent place-kicker," Siegel said. "last
year was a good season but it wasn't
flawless by any means. Because I made
mistakes last year, there is the possibili
ty to raise the bar that much higher."
With the chance to be considered
the nation's top place-kicker when 20
semifinalists are announced Nov. 3,
and his newfound leadership role
with inexperienced special teams,
Siegel has some pressure ahead, but
he doesn't mind.
"I think I thrive under pressure,
and when the odds are against me 1
think I'm at my best," he said. "I like
that a lot. That's an adjustment you
have to make as an athlete. But I en
joy the attention and pressure that
comes with."

tonight and (the) fast ball was good."
Right fielder Jeff Leise got the
lead-off run in the fourth with a sin
gle that turned to a double after an
error by Spokane. After Wahlbrink
was walked, Ramos shot a single to
left that scored Leise and gave Eu
gene the 4-0 lead.
Spokane put one run on the
board in the top of the fifth off a
triple by shortstop lan Kinsler, yet it
wouldn't be enough as the Ems
coasted their way to victory.
The Ems won only their second
game of a ten-game season series
against Spokane; however, by winning
the final game of this five-game series,
and after Sunday's 12-inning loss, Eu
gene felt it had something to prove.
"We had confidence and we
know we can beat them," Leise said.
"Coach talked to us in the locker
room yesterday and we knew we
