Drug and alcohol offenses September 2002 - May 2003 Liquor law violations Drug possession Adelle Lennox Emerald APR Crime continued from page 1 caught because they aren’t reading their housing contracts,” he said. Although he didn’t get cited by DPS for an alcohol-related offense his freshman fall term, sophomore Jay Pybum said he partied through out the year. “Freshman year, my whole spring term was a party,” he said. In the same time frame, DPS has received 84 reports of possession of a controlled substance — typically less than an ounce of marijuana — 17 percent of which occurred in January and 19 percent of which oc curred in April. Considering the two months represent the first four weeks of winter and spring terms, respectively, Loschiavo said he isn’t surprised by the trend. “At that point, students haven’t taken midterms yet and perhaps have yet to start thinking about term grades,” he said. Pyburn, who says he’s mellowed out a bit since his first-year partying days, said the winter and spring term drug trend accurately portrays the mentality on campus during a new term. “There is definitely more partying at the beginning of the term because you have so much time to catch up in your work,” he said.
