Open in Palo Alto, Calif., he threw
the shot 72-0 3/4.
The 6-foot-4-inch Godina, a
1995 graduate of UCLA, is a veter

has the talent and desire to take

when that’s happening.”
Toth is a slightly bigger version
of Godina, standing at 6-foot-4
inches as wrell, but weighing in at
295 lbs. Toth, 35, is also an older
version of Godina.
Still, he took last year’s Pre
fontaine with a throw of 72-9 3/4.
That was his personal record at the
time. However, he has topped that
this year, throwing the shot at 74-4
1/2 at the Kansas Relays earlier this
year. It was the best throw in the
world since 1990.
At the Prefontaine last year, the
throw was just a starting point for
the McNeese State graduate.
“Watch out, man,” he said last year.
“I know bigger things are coming.”
The same could be said of this
year, even if Toth has already
topped last year’s Prefontaine
performance.
The group is broken up for now,
but the duo will undoubtedly re
member last year’s electrifying per
formance. They’ll have to, especially
with an expected sellout crowd of at
least 12,000 fans at Hayward Field
for the 29th annual Prefont*
