in 3 1/3 innings to earn the win.
“We’re a team of many heroes,”
Arendsen said. “We’re not going to
rest on our laurels. They’re hungry.”
Saturday, the Ducks split a dou
bleheader with Stanford. Oregon
took the first game, 7-0, but lost 5-1
in the nightcap.
The doubleheader was also senior
day for five players. Bergstrom, Haij,
Hutchison, Laux and Vidlund all
played their final games at Howe Field.
Harris’ complete-game shutout and
four Oregon home runs led the Ducks
to victory in Saturday’s first game.
Oregon scattered seven runs
through the second to sixth innings.
In the second, Poore scored on a
single by Hutchison. Boskovich hit a
solo home run in the third, putting
the Ducks up, 2-0.
Poore added another run in the
fourth when she scored on a double
by Goodell.
In the fifth, Vidlund hit the 33rd
home run of her career to tie for sec
ond on Oregon’s all-time home run
list. The shot to left field was a two-run
blast that drove in Haij. A solo home
run by Poore gave Oregon a 6-0 lead.
Goodell hit a lead-off home run in
the sixth to add one more run for
the Ducks.
“We just came out to play hard,”
Poore said. “We wanted to finish the
season high for the seniors.”
Oregon’s defense struggled in the
second game, as four errors helped
the Cardinal to a win.

teams were underrated heading into
the season. They overpertbrmed. They
went all David on the Pac-lO’s Goliaths.
They went into the postseason hotter
than Pam Anderson.
Both coaches wanted to win, so they
took out the “i” from “team” and threw it
in the garbage disposal. Arendsen is doing
her thing with players thatare essentially
the same as previous losing seasons, ex
cept for the notable additions of freshmen
Amy Harris and Breanne Sabol.
But this i-less team sacrifice
bunts. It turns double plays.
And that i-lessness is the reason
why the Ducks sat in a room at the
Gasanova Center on Sunday night
with their family and friends, why they
went nuts-o as “Oregon” flashed up on
the screens. Why this weekend, they
won over at least one sports fan.
Go softball. Go, before I turn into
a big softy.
