Students can rent rooms similar to those of the residence halls at The
SunSpot and The Spot, located on 15th Avenue.
The Spot, SunSpot
provide convenience
Steve Frichette is making use of old space. The University alum
nus transformed an unused sorority house into a boarding house
called The SunSpot. The house, located at 851 E. 15th Avenue,
opened to female residents earlier this year.
“(The boarding houses) are a creative use for a building that oth
erwise wouldn’t be used,” Frichette said.

On or off campus,
housing plans vary
Students have various living options around Eugene
for next year. One of those options is the residence
halls. Students say living in on-campus housing is con
venient because it’s close to everything, and they don’t
have to worry about cooking their own meals.
“I chose to live in the dorms next year because neither
my roommate nor I have a car; this way we don’t have to
walk back to our apartment late at night, and it’s just
more convenient,” freshman Lauren Weiner said.
There are also apartment complexes off campus
such as Ducks Village, the University Commons and
Chase Village, which were built specifically for stu
dents. They are all located across the Willamette riv
er, close to Autzen Stadium. About 1,600 students live
in these complexes.
Ducks Village and the Commons are furnished with
beds, couches and desks. Ducks Village, located at
3225 Kinsrow Ave., has one, two, three and four bed
room apartments and an individual lease system. Stu
dents have access to a computer lab, recreation room,
large pool, indoor spa, fitness center, volleyball and
basketball courts and nighttime security.
The Commons are located at 90 Commons Drive
and have one, two and four bedroom apartments. They
also have a roommate matching service. There is a
swimming pool, volleyball and basketball courts, fit
ness center and computer lab.
“I chose to live in the Commons (next year) be
cause the apartments are fully furnished, including a
washer and dryer,” freshman Liz Rodgers said. “They
are surrounded by great bike paths and are very close
to campus. My favorite feature is how the
residents/tenants are mainly University students.”
Chase Village is the largest complex with about 536
units and is located at 375 Maye Chase Drive. Facili
ties include two large pools, computer lab, recreation
room, spa, fitness center, pool tables, tanning beds and
a hair salon. However, Chase is not furnished, and
there are only apartment leases.
