Thrift stores yield
furniture bargains
Students looking for cheap furniture
can buy it second hand without
breaking their bank accounts

With summer approaching, many people
may be moving into a new apartment or
house for the first time. For students on
a limited budget, this may call for major
bargain shopping for essential home furni
ture. There are several ways to get furni
ture in Eugene without clearing out the
bank account.
“Buying second-hand furniture is a great
way to recycle,” freshman Simon Battisti
said. “When I first got to town, I paid a visit
to Goodwill to buy a chair. It was kind of
dirty, but I covered it with a blanket, so it
was cool. I like the idea of recycling furni
ture because it seems like it won’t take up a
lot of room in a landfill.”

While furniture in department stores may
be as high as $148 for a couch/futon or a
dining table, students often can get good
deals at yard sales.
“I bought an orange, furry footstool and
three antique lamps that you can’t buy in
stores,” senior Autumn Depoe said. Depoe
said she goes to yard sales in order to save
money and to get deals on unique items.
Nathan Dunn agreed.
“I got a huge whiteboard for, like, $10,”
