SEATTLE — The president of the
University of Alabama will tell mem
bers of the board of regents on Satur
day whether he is firing Mike Price as
Crimson Tide football coach.
President Robert E. Witt met
again on Thursday with Price and
athletic director Mai Moore and
then was scheduled to talk to chan
cellor Mack Portera.
“This review involves careers
and lives, and it has been impera
tive that it be thorough,” Witt said
Witt said he wanted to meet
with regents before the weekend,
but there were too many schedul
ing conflicts.
Meanwhile, Alabama newspapers
have been busy unearthing what
Price, the former Washington State
coach, did in Pensacola to put his
job in jeopardy.
The Birmingham News reported
that while Price was in Pensacola,
Fla., for a pro-am golf tournament
April 16, he spent about #200 on
topless-bar dancer “Destiny” Stahl
in drinks and private dances. She
said she didn’t leave the club with
him. Price apparently left the club
while she was still on duty and he
later returned.
The Mobile Register said that
while Price was playing golf the
next day, a woman in Price’s room
charged more than #1,000 in food
and drinks to the coach’s room. The
woman ordered every item on the
room service menu and asked that
the food be boxed so she could
leave with it. She wasn’t allowed to
take the order with her and Price
returned to the hotel and paid the
bill, the newspaper said.
There are reports that the hotel
contacted Price while he was on
the golf course and told him what
was occurring.
The woman hasn’t been identified.
Price is married and his two sons,
Eric and Aaron, are on the Alabama
coaching staff.
ESPN.com reported that Price
spent Tuesday night this week
telephoning coaches who are on
the road recruiting and apologiz
ing to them.
Price has agreed in principle to a
seven-year, $10 million contract at
Alabama but hasn’t signed it.

Harmon will try and reach the re
gional qualifying standard (4:31.00)
again this week as she is less than a
second shy.
“This is a really good meet for Lau
ra to get the mark,” Heinonen said. If
Harmon doesn’t get the mark,
Heinonen plans to take her to Stan
ford next week to try and qualify her
for the 5,000 meters.
Oregon’s pole vault arsenal will be

tournament, the Oregon Duck Invi

Ellis was the first Duck tabbed for
the honor in three years.
Senior Chris Carnahan also gar

Eri McDonald is one of a handful of seniors who will compete in their last meet
last week’s competition was won by
redshirt senior Niki McEwen at 13-1.
“It really wasn’t good weather and
it’s hard to compete in that,” McEwen
said. “I hope it doesn’t rain. And it’s my
last home meet as a Duck, and of
course, I’d like to jump well.”
After the meet is over Saturday,
more than 100 past athletes who
were under Heinonen’s tenure will
come to honor him in the Bowerman
