Finest dining this side

Review by Jenn Knoop
With hundreds of restaurants to choose from in the
greater Eugene-Springfield area, how do you make the dis
tinction in finding something new? A new menu, new food,
but in our case we found a new dining atmosphere. My date
and I dined at the ever-classic Oregon Electric Station where
we found no remnants of a power station but the history be
hind the old train company that used to run through our
small city.
Uur server, Ben, directed us towards a cozy coach seat in
the old train car. As we perused the wine list our ever-friend
ly server outfitted us with all the comforts of good service.
We decided to start our dinner with the steamed clams and
sauteed mushrooms. While awaiting our first course, my
date and I found that the restaurant was quiet and the atmos
phere provided the perfect beginning to a great date. The
steamed clams and mushrooms served by our waiter were
absolutely delicious. The clams were drenched in garlic, but
ter and wine sauce and we devoured them, filling an entire
bowl with empty shells.
For our next course I ordered the New York steak with gar
lic-mashed potatoes and my date ordered the special, which
was the halibut cheeks piccata cooked in a lemon caper
sauce.
When my steak arrived at the table I almost questioned
whether or not I could even fit this entire meal in, but within
minutes I found myself half way through the most succulent
steak I had ever eaten. For all you steak lovers out there I
highly recommend this dish.
My date, for lack of better words found his dinner to be oh
so good. He warns you to not let the name draw you away
from ordering this fantastic meal.
The Oregon Electric Station was the perfect place to relax,
enjoy great conversation with a date or friend and dine on
excellent cuisine.
