while he was student body presi dent), he has solid ideas and he brings a wealth of experience to the table. The journalism school will be well represented by him. Senate Seat 15 Social Science Adam Turcott Turcott will be a refreshing voice in student government. Coming off a stint as Residence Hall Associa tion finance chairman, he brings some experience and many new ideas to the _ senate. He of fered a con crete sugges tion for increasing communica tion with his constituency, and like a few other candi dates, would like to see more events that help enliven the campus community and draw more people together. Turcott will keep students involved in government. Senate Seat 16 Science Paul Griffes Griffes was one of our favorite Turcott eanuiuaces overall. At times his an swers were long-winded, I but they al ways con tained good ideas. We share Griffes’ con- - cern about the I University’s I push for more Griffes autonomy from government over sight, we agree with him that sen ate should have put an anti-war resolution ballot measure before the students, and we appreciate his attention to students who, as he says, don’t fit “that 18-to-22 year-old, Mom-and-Dad-are-pay ing-for-it profile.” Griffes is thoughtful and engaged, and he’ll make a good senator. Senate Seat 17 Business Erik Fordyce Fordyce gives business stu dents a no-non sense, business oriented choice for senate, and we recommend they take it. r uruyce s locus mrm. and ideas re- Fnrflvrp volve around * giving the business school better rep resentation, acquiring more Universi ty funding for business clubs and hav ing more outreach from companies to the school. He seems prepared and well-equipped to sit on senate. EMU Board At-Large Midterm seat ~ Slade Leeson IN one or the candidates for this race offered a lot of detail, but Leeson has the strongest grasp of the fis cal issues facing EMU groups and a willing ness to main tain service lev els. He also suggested looking for outside sources for fundraising to help maintain serv ices, which we support. Associated Students Presidential Advisory Council Nick Hudson Hudson has great experience and legislative knowledge, thanks to his work in ASUO this year. That brings a strong understanding of the issues affecting students, in cluding the affordability of college, tne recruit ment and re tention of mi norities on campus and working more closely with the communi ty. This was a close race, though, and Alex uonzalez also would Hudson make a fine choice. Editorial board members Michael J.
