Spring Equipment Swap
Thursday, April 17
This event is a combination of our popular private seller’s equipment swap with the retail
store operator’s outdoor store garage sale. Returns, discounted items, excess inventory,
used rental gear and other deals will be flying at this unique gathering of Eugene’s pop
ular outdoor gear stores and gear heads. This is a great opportunity to buy clothes and
equipment a rock bottom prices for your next adventure!
Thursday, 7:30 pm: EMU Ballroom
Now in its 27th year, The Banff Festival of Mountain Films, presented by Eagle Creek
Travel Gear and National Geographic Society, offers big screen adventure that’s larger
than life. The festival is the oldest and largest festival in North America and one of the
most prestigious in the world. Cosponsored by REI Eugene, the show highlights films
about mountain culture, environment, and sport. These films will amaze, inspire and
move you. The show is held at the McDonald Theatre where screen, sound, comfort,
and refreshments will all be maximized! Advanced ticket sales begin March 31st at
EMU Tickets, REI Eugene, and all Fastixx outlets. Ticket prices are $8 for UO Students
and OP Co-op Members; $10 General Admission (students & co-op members must buy
tickets at EMU or REI to receive discount). Prices increase $2 at the door.

Become an OP trip initiator: it’s easy. The first night covers OP philosophy, liability, trip
planning, and procedures. Saturday we’ll go over the use of the facility (The Bam), the
equipment, vehicles, safety procedures, and more. Attendance at both sessions is re
quired to become a trip initiator. Free!

Don’t miss the Thirteenth Annual Rogue River Clean-up; have a bash picking up trash!
The OP has officially adopted the Wild and Scenic portion of the Rogue. We float and
hike the banks, picking up garbage and tires between Rainie Falls and Mule Creek
Canyon. Every year we haul hundreds of pounds of trash from the river banks. Local
businesses support the effort with food, boats, and other donations. Sign-up at the OP
on April 3rd at 5:30 pm (each person may sign-up for themself and just one other person;
sorry, no exceptions). Space is limited. Pre-trip meeting is mandatory. Estimated
cost:$35-$45.

John Cissel, author of a forthcoming book “Old-Growth Forest Hikes - Washington and
Oregon Cascades,” presents a tour through these magnificent forest using slides he has
accumulated while hiking over 2,000 miles through the finest forests left in the Cascade
Range. John shows some of the most impressive forests still standing in the Cascades,
and illustrates the ecological factors shaping these forests using examples from trails
through old growth in the Oregon Cascades. Join us for this inspiring, informative show.

Rock Climbing 101 Clinic
Saturday or Sunday, May 10 or 11
The OP and the Outdoor Pursuits Program (OPP) are once again teaming up to
bring you a fun day of rock climbing technique instruction. OPP climbing instruc
tors tailor this clinic to beginner and intermediate climbers who want to focus on
their footwork and place their hands effectively in a fun and supportive atmosphere.
The clinic will not cover the how to’s of belay and anchor setting; instead we’ll take
the entire day to focus on technique. The clinic provides 4 hours of instruction and
costs $3 for students and OP Co-op members, $5 general public. SRC rock shoes,
harnesses, and belay devices can be rented for $3. Registration is limited to 10 par
ticipants. Preregister at the OP Office.

Skinner's Butte Climbing Columns
Scott Lindgren Productions and Sawtooth Films are known for their heart pumping,
adrenaline filled films and thier current release is all that and more. Elements of Adren
aline is a multi-sport film that travels the globe to bring you the best in kayaking, ski
ing, and base jumping. Come see a kayaking expedition to the most treacherous rivers
Africa has to offer, then watch expert skiers safely navigate avalanche prone slopes in
Alaska and finish with a thrilling Base Jumping film where expert athletes jump from
any and every object they can find in 24 hours. Free!
Tuesday 7:30 pm: 100 Willamette Hall
Experience the thrill of running the Middle Fork of the Salmon - Idaho’s magnificent
river which cuts its way through the largest wilderness area in the Lower 48. Photogra
pher and river runner Matt Leidecker shares his intimate knowledge of this awe-inspiring
place in stunning photographs that illuminate the river in it’s many moods, offering a
glimpse of what it’s like to float through one of the West’s last wild places. Free!

This popular clinic is a must for river trip initiators and beginning boaters alike. If you
run rivers, you will encounter a situation that requires rescue skills. Useful knots, rope
systems, hardware, techniques, and strategies, will be covered in this hands-on, land
based clinic. Space is limited and preregistration is required. $20 for students and OP
Co-op members; $25 for nonmembers.

door knots. Use the new OP Knot Tying Station. Free!

Tree Climbing Clinic
Friday & Saturday, May 23 & 24
If you love the outdoors and are looking for a new way to experience it, come learn more
about tree climbing. Viola Brumbaugh of New Tribe will instruct this 2-part clinic. The
evening orientation covers the “how to” with an equipment review and climbing tech
nique information. On Saturday we’ll get out into the forest and climb trees. Preregister
at the OP Office, spaces are limited and will fill quickly so sign-up now! Cost is $15 for
students and OP Co-op members and $20 for general public.
