    Flowers in
the sun
Spring colors abound in the late winter around
campus. March is here and spring is soon to follow as
the rain ceases and the sun breaks through the ever
present clouds.

Students share memories of ‘Mister Rogers’
“My
favorite
memory is
probably
when he
took the
train into
the little
neighbor
hood of the
puppets, or
when he
took it to
Sprague
find out how fortune cookies
are made. It was just the
coolest thing in the world.
“The cat that lived in the tree
was my favorite. He had the
coolest voices —just really
soft-spoken.”
Whitney Sprague, 19
undergraduate,
communications
“The
King
comm
anded
every
thing.
“Every
time
the
train
comes
out and
... you
Ho
go to the enchanted
kingdom — everybody
teaches you morals.”
Ricky Ho, 20
undergraduate, pre
business
administration
‘The places
he would go
to, like the
factory—so
we could get
to see every
thing that
happened
there. It was
so great.
“Now my
favorite
Orr
character is Mr. McFeely because
I heard a story that Mr. McFeely
was (Mister Rogers’) grandpa.
“Mister Rogers was my favorite
— nobody else. He was so nice
and so much fun, and you could
tell that he just loved kids. He
always made me feel special.”
Candace Orr undergraduate,
pre-psychology
“It
was a
really
great
show.
I liked
the
part
where
he
went
out to
the
Gore
factories the most. It
was cool to see how
things are made.
“Mr. McFeely was just
really cool. He was ...
really out there.”
Kevin Gore, 20
undergraduate,
music education
“My favorite
memory
would
probably be
when I
would come
home from
preschool
and turn on
the TV, and I
always knew
that ‘Mister
Rogers’ was
Tavernier
on because ‘General Hospital’
was on another channel, so I
would switch it to ‘Mister Rogers.’
“King Friday... was a nice guy,
but he just was stuck on himself,
and all the others were trying to
help him get over that."
Lyle Tavernier, 23
graduate student,
educational leadership
“My
favorite
moment
in ‘Mister
Rogers’
is when
he
brought
out
Charlie
and he
went
Toot!
Takemoto
Toot!’ Feeding the fish is
always a good one. I knew
they were always coming,
and I expected it to go into
his neighborhood and meet
all his friends.
“I liked the owl because he
was wise.”
JodyTakemoto, 19
undergraduate, science
