For Mitchell, the pin Friday was
his second in front of the Ducks’
home crowd.
During the Dec. 13 Civil War bat
tle against Oregon State, Mitchell
pinned his opponent at the 2:28
mark. Oregon had been down 15-3
entering Mitchell’s 125 matchup,
and his pin turned the Ducks
around. Oregon won the rest of the
matches and the meet 18-15.
Ranked Ducks
With only one of three wrestling
polls released early Tuesday, two of
Oregon’s ranked wrestlers appeared.
In The Wrestling Mall’s poll, sopho
more Shane Webster stayed at No. 14
in the 174 weight class. Webster is 18

one Pacific-10 Conference wrestler is
ranked above Webster in 174 — Ari
zona State’s Curtis Owen at No. 7.
In the same poll, Hunt moved up
to No. 18 at the 141 weight class.

Pac-10fun
This isn’t your normal Pac-10.
This isn’t the Pac-10 with Huskies
and Cougars, Bruins and Trojans, or
even Wildcats and Golden Bears. In
stead, there are Aggies and Vikings,
Titans and Broncos, and even Mus
tangs and Roadrunners.
The Pac-10 currently has two
teams in the Top 25. Arizona State
leads the way at No. 9, while Boise
State, the defending conference
champion, is No. 23 nationally.

No. 1 in the country. Oklahoma,
which Oregon wrestles on Friday,
moved up from No. 9 last week to
No. 2, right behind its in-state rival.

Against Arizona, Lavin tried to
spark the Bruins by substituting
his starters for four bench-warm
ers with 13 minutes left in the
second half.
“At first I was kind of shocked
about going in,” said Janou Rubin,
a walk-on. “He’s trying to find
somebody to spark this team.
That’s the biggest thing missing.”
Shipp’s sailing for Cal
California (12-2 overall) is 5-0 in
conference play for the first time
since 1957, thanks in large part to
senior forward Joe Shipp.
In his last four games, Shipp, the
Pac-10 Player of the Week, is aver
aging 27.3 points on 39-of-61
(.639) shooting. Shipp leads the
league in scoring at 21.4 points per
game and average minutes played
at 35.4 per game.
