Sports brief The Oregon track teams will swing into gear this weekend as both squads compete in their first events of the indoor season. A handful of athletes, 42 total, from the teams will travel to Seattle for the Husky Indoor Preview on Sat urday. It will be the first appearance for decathlon star Santiago Lorenzo since he suffered a quadricep injury last February that kept him out for most of last season. The women will also send a con tingent of pole vaulters to the USATF Pole Vault Summit in Reno, Nev., to day and Saturday. Peter Hockaday Men's continued from page 5A past five games. The Ducks went down early in both their California losses, and never recuperated. “Teams are coming after us this year, and last year we were com ing at teams,” Ridnour said. “We’ve got to be ready to handle that, and so far we haven’t done such a good job.” But Grosswhite, for one, is con fident the Ducks can get back on track. “I can tell you right now, we’re go ing to be in sync for that game,” he said in reference to the Civil War. The game is, after all, at grand ma’s house. Contact the sports editor atpeterhockaday@dailyemerald.com. Wrestling continued from page 5A losses coming by decision. Five of his 16 wins have come from two falls, two technical falls and a ma jor decision. “Last year as a true freshman, Shane had a very good season,” Kear ney said. “I think this is going to be a breakthrough year for Shane.” Friday, the Ducks wrestled in the Redmond-hosted Oregon Classic. The Ducks went 2-2 in their four matches, including a win over Pac 10 opponent California State-Fuller ton. In Oregon’s first home matches this season, it beat Oregon State in come-from-behind style to win 18 15 on Jan. 13, then followed with a 30-3 loss to Nebraska the next day. The big loss to Nebraska came from a lot of little mistakes. “We just have to step up as a team,” Kearney said. The team, however, lost one of their top wrestlers Monday. Senior Eric Webb, who finished third in the Pae-10 at heavyweight last year, suf fered his fourth concussion in less than two years at the first tourna ment of the season. After sitting out since, with freshman Neil Phillips filling in, he announced he was not going to continue competing with the team. The rest of the Ducks take on the Cardinals and the Aggies today when they resume Pac-10 dual meets.
