News brief
First senate session of
term funds conference
In its first meeting since winter
break, the ASUO Student Senate
met Wednesday night and geared
up for the new term by taking care
of general housekeeping duties, up
dating the progress of several com
mittees and hearing a special re
quest from the Student Insurgent.
Representatives from The Insur
gent appeared at the meeting to ask
the senate to transfer funds from
the $14,439 surplus to help pay for
the group to attend an independent
publishing conference in San Fran
cisco, and help fund the Against Pa
triarchy Conference. The group
had engaged in previous fundrais
ing efforts, gaining extra money
from other student groups and ben
efit events, but still fell short of
their financial goals.
After extended deliberations,
the senate voted to give The In
surgent the requested funding,
$3,314 for the conference, and
$501 for travel and lodging ex
penses for the conference.
Committee members also up
dated the senate on their recent
developments.
The EMU Board of Directors cau
tioned that the elevator in the EMU
is likely to be replaced because it
has been malfunctioning recently.
The Athletic Department Fi
nance Committee said it had re
ceived complaints about Arizona
tickets not being available.
