Oregon Daily Emerald Washington continued from page 2B tempts, pass completions, passing yards, first downs by pass and first downs by penalty. “I think Cody would trade all those numbers for more wins,” Washington head coach Rick Neuheisel said. “We’re really focus ing on that. Maybe sometime down the future we’ll have some time to reflect on that. But right now we are just trying to do everything we can to seek out victories.” Another record-setter is senior placekicker John Anderson, who has raised the bar for all kickers in the conference. In 1999, Anderson’s freshman year, he led the team with 73 points. Anderson converted a 50-yard field goal against Oregon State that sea son, the longest Washington kick since 1989. Anderson would raise the stan dard even more by putting one through the uprights from 56 yards out, tying the school record. Ander son would do it again from that dis tance, and became only the second true freshman in NCAA history to boot three 50-yard field goals in a single season. Four years later, Anderson is tied for sixth in the nation with l.bO field goals per game. The senior converted four of five kicks against California on Oct. 5, the second most field goals ever in a game in Washington. Anderson’s total of 50-yarders is now at six, and he holds the fifth best percentage in school history at .696 in his career. The Huskies will have to contin ue their tear through the record books on the road. Washington Emerald Whenever the Ducks and Huskies meet, the rivalry produces good games. The teams are seen here clashing in 2000 at Autzen Stadium. Oregon won the game 23-16. faces No. 23 Oregon on Saturday and No. 3 Washington State in Pull man next week. The Huskies snapped a three game losing streak with a 41-29 vic tory over OSU last weekend. Without the help of Husky cor nerback Derrick Johnson, that may not have been possible. Johnson racked up two of Washington’s five interceptions and returned one 42 yards for a touchdown. The sopho more from Riverside, Calif., also posted six solo tackles. Johnson was one of three athletes named Pac-10 Player of the Week. “I’m excited for Derrick,” Neuheisel said. “Hopefully this is a sign of things to come. He certainly is a great kid and I am excited for him to have more and more success as we continue to go forward. He is only a sophomore, so hopefully he will have a productive career.” So as the Huskies move forward, they have an arm in Pickett that can’t be stopped, a foot in Anderson that can boot one from any distance and a recovered Johnson who is back and better than ever. As Wash ington continues its pursuit through the records, it could see a bowl game, after all. Contact the sports reporter atjessethomas@dailyemerald.com. Heisman continued from page 5B Missouri in overtime 42-35 last week. Brown had 35 carries for 211 yards and three touchdowns. Brown has 251 carries for 1,616 yards and 17 touchdowns on the season. Colorado hosts Iowa State on Saturday. Jason Gesser — senior QB, Washington State Gesser and the Cougars beat Oregon 32-21 last week. Gesser threw 20 complete passes on 38 attempts, for 277 yards, four touch downs and one interception. Gesser is 190-of-320 for 2,696 yards on the season. He has thrown 24 touchdown passes and eight interceptions. Washington State hosts Washington on Nov. 23. Carson Palmer — senior QB, USC Palmer and the Trojans beat Stanford 49 17 last week. Palmer threw 22 complete passes on 33 attempts for 317 yards and four touchdowns. Palmer is 217-of-347 for 2,746 yards on the season. He has thrown 22 touchdown passes and eight interceptions. USC hosts Arizona State on Saturday. Mindi Rice is a freelance writer for the Emerald. r Pac-10 continued from page 7B award goes to the obvious choice: Stanford hosting Oregon State. Both teams have losing records in the Pac-10 and the two lowest pass-efficiency ratings in the league. Oregon State currently leads the Pac-10 in rushing offense and scoring defense, yet the Beavers are tied with Washington for seventh in the Pac-10 standings. The Beavers’ only conference wins have come at home against California and last-place Arizona. The Beavers averaged 31 points in those two games, and gave up an average of eight points. Oregon State’s easy preseason schedule — The Beavers went 4-0 — is the reason OSU has a chance to finish with a winning record. “It’s a matter for us to get on the road and try to get a win, which we haven’t in two years in the league,” Oregon State head coach Dennis Erickson said. Saturday’s game will be Erickson’s 200th game as a college head coach. Stanford has the last-place scoring defense in the Pac-10, as well as the last-place passing offense in a league that is known for being pass-oriented. The Cardinal have lost three games in a row, averaging 16 points in those three games. They have given up an average 39 points in those same three games. “It’s a special game, the last home game for our seniors, and they want to go out on a positive note,” Stanford head coach Buddy Teevens said. “They’re dying for a win just like we are,” Erickson said. Something may be dying, but it’s just the slow death of both teams. Mindi Rice is a freelance writer for the Emerald. jsrsi jUgi, The #Juan Burrito!
