As I walked into Eugene's newest Latin
Cuisine and Bar, I was preparing for a com
pletely unique experience. The deep red
walls, Christmas lights strung along the
ceiling, and a disco ball in the center of the
room made me feel like I was walking into
an authentic Latin discotheque.
I VT UO
with a warm smile
from the manager
as he whisked us
away to our black
table topped with an
elegant white table
cloth. Our server,
the manager him
self, was very atten
tive and insisted on
a special drink for
me, "the lady".
He came out
right away with
chips and salsa and
told us about the
specials. A came
asada marinated in
Black Butte Porter was my date's choice,
while I chose the steak fajitas. Both dishes
greatly exceeded our expectations and we
were impressed with the chefs attention to
detail and presentation.
The Rumba Room is reminiscent of a
Latin cantina, taken straight out of a
Caribbean or Latin American hotspot and
placed in the heart of Eugene's downtown.
Until 10pm, all ages are welcome. Then
the dance lights fire up and the Salsa
dancers take the floor. For those who have
never danced before, or those wishing to
perfect their salsa dancing, a pair of profes
sionals give lessons, beginning at 9pm.
We started the night with the manager's
suggestion; two margaritas made from
scratch. These were quite possibly the best
margaritas in town! The bar offered a vari
ety of tropical drinks served up by a bar
tender of many talents.
The Rumba Room is a place I would def
initely take a group of friends or a first
date. With the salsa dancing lessons, my
first thought was an ideal first date. The
salsa dancing would be a great icebreaker,
and it gives the opportunity to get close!

Picture a candlelight dinner consisting
of exquisite Italian cuisine, a bottle of
wine, mood lighting...and a big screen tele
vision.
For over 50 years, Tino's Spaghetti
House, located on 15th and Willamette, has
provided Eugene residents and students at
the University of Oregon with excellent
food and an intimate atmosphere. The can
dles on the restaurant tables create a
romantic feel, yet the two big screen TVs
lighten the overall mood.
With a large dining room as well as a
secondary dining room, the restaurant can
accommodate large groups as well as plenty
of smaller parties.
The wait for a seat at peak times (par
ticularly Friday and Saturday nights) is
short, and the wait staff is friendly and
prompt.
Their selection of entrees includes
many options for under $10, well within a
student budget. A wide selection of Italian
food is available as their standard menu
fare, and Sunday night features a buffet as
part of their "Mob Hit" night.
For this event, the establishment plays a
Mafia movie or will tune into a television
series that fits the organized-crime genre
for their weekly "Mob Hit" theme.
The restaurant also includes a full bar
featuring many beers on tap and a variety
of wines are featured by the glass or bottle.
Tino's is a picture-perfect Italian restau
rant that provides excellent food and good
company. Spirited and creative weekly
events add to an enjoyable evening out.
