A good restaurant with good breakfast is
not uncommon. Twenty-four hour pancake
houses and local cafes will typically offer
food in the early morning, but the formula
for food, location, and service for most of
these establishments remains fundamen
tally benign. Studio One bravely breaks
from this form, and the result is perfect.
Gone are cheap plastic plants and wait
ers coming off marathon graveyard shifts.
Instead, Studio One has converted the first
floor of an old 19th Street home into a
small restaurant with sensational food and

The atmosphere is the biggest atten

the gentleman who made us a latte came

a waiter ask you how you wanted your
bacon cooked? Being offered a choice
between chewy or crispy was completely
unexpected and welcomed.
The final important part to Studio One
is the food. Frankly, the atmosphere and
the service could have been this restau
rant's only distinguishing features, and I
would still be satisfied. But Studio One
adds to the mix food like no other. Fresh
ingredients and good preparation make
these dishes stand out from other break
fast. The French toast came to the table
covered in a rich blackberry compote, with
a sweet butter and cream sauce poured lib
erally off to the side. The bread itself was
thick and perfectly prepared: lightly bat
tered and cooked until it was not too soft
and not too crispy. The bacon was crispy,
just as I had requested, and the eggs were
cooked exactly to ordered.
The prices of the dishes are competitive
with most breakfast cafes, but the value of
what you get at Studio One extends far
beyond the bill.
Rarely does a restaurant offer as much
as Studio One, blending top-notch service,
outstanding food, and an energetic and
unique atmosphere.
