— Spencer Gifts and Sears, who
wouldn’t want to do a little perus
ing? And, as luck may have it, the
trip to the mall might coincide
with a sidewalk sale. Let’s cross
our fingers and hope!
After such an event-filled day, a
hearty meal is in order. Thankfully,
the mail’s prized restaurant is also
its hot spot. Hometown Buffet, any
one? It’s almost possible to taste the
class in each and every bite.
Finally, finish the night off with
the second-half of a double feature,
then call it quits.
With the day complete, revel in
a day well spent. A day at the Gate
way Mall has just as many attrac
tions as a day at the zoo, but beats
the hell out of it, in my book.
And while it might not have
been pretty, at least there was air
conditioning.

While the dancers are allowed to
touch the patron — think $20 lap
dance — the patron must not initi
ate contact. 2) Don’t clash with the
bouncers. Violation of either of
these rules will get you thrown
out, beaten up — or both.
Another piece of useful advice:
Bring $1 bills. Carry lots and lots of
them. This is the means of exchange
between the dancer and patron. To
get a “special show” from a dancer,
for example, place a dollar on the
table. If the dancer has performed
well, leave a dollar. If the dancer is
just plain ol’ cute, it’s worth a dollar.
Also, talking with the dancer in a
normal, everyday fashion can gain
you favor. Ask them how their shift
has been going, what the night has
been like or just how life is in gener
al. This small talk creates a kind of
tie between the patron and dancer
and often times can increase the
number of “special shows.”
In terms of auditory accompani
ment, strip clubs are the last bas
tions of ’80s hair-band music.
There has to be something for the
performers to dance to, right?
While there is a fair amount of cur
rent rock music, watching a dancer -
appear on stage to Blink-182’s
“Adam’s Song” is just not the same
as Warrant’s “Cherry Pie. ” 'i
Those who dwell in the strip
clubs on a Friday or Saturday
evening can expect to pay a cover
charge at the majority of establish
ments. I can reasonably under
stand a cover if I was in Los Ange
les, Seattle or maybe even Portland
— but this is Eugene. The biggest
thing going is the football team.
Nowhere in Eugene is worth a cov
er charge. But I digress.
Whether one chooses to go the
cheap route — sitting in the corner
with one beer for two hours and
watching all the action — or to be
an active participant — setting
down a dollar for every cartwheel
performed by a dancer — the strip
club offers some hot action in a
cool environment. At least, this is
what I’ve been told.
