Ems center fielder Ruben Mora uses some power against the Tri-City Dust Devils in
Saturday night’s game. The Ems finished with a victory late in the seventh inning, 5-1.
Emeralds '
continued from page 1
sweep by the Dust Devils, who
won 4-3,17-8, 5-4 and 6-2 earlier
in the week.
The Emeralds lost their season
opener — a game that featured co
inciding opening pitches by Uni
versity coaches Mike Bellotti and
Ernie Kent — 4-3 after leaving a
man stranded at third base in the
bottom of the ninth inning.
On Sunday, the Ems lost their
first road game of the season and
their series opener against the
Boise Hawks 5-1.
The Ems will be in Boise until
Friday, when the team will host
Everett at 7:05 p.m. in Eugene.
Emeralds spokesman Doug
Williams said a trip to Civic Stadi
um should appeal to students be
cause of its relaxing atmosphere.
On Independence Day, the Ems
will host Spokane in what
Williams said will be a “huge” day.
The fireworks show that will ac
company the game should bring in
a big crowd, he said. Williams said
only 800 general admission tickets
for the July 4 game remain.
