The free evening presentation covers avalanche types, hazard estimation, route selection, rescue techniques & equipment. The $35 Saturday clinic gives participants a chance to dig snow pits, analyze snow conditions and gain hands on practice on rescue andd assesment techniques. Constantly warned that he would be killed if he strayed into tribal lands, he had to face his fears, overcoming physical and emotional obstacles along the way. Thursday, 7:30 pm: 100 Willamette Hall Time To Climb Want to discover, or improve, your rock climbing skills while meeting other capable climbers? The OP has reserved time on the Student Recreation Center (SRC) Rock Wall on the UO campus for five skill builder sessions. Instruction is not provided. This is simply an opportunity to build an OP rock climbing community and practice, practice, practice. When warm weather arrives we’ll be ready to climb Smith Rocks, Flagstone, Joshua Tree and more! Reserve your spot by prepaying at the OP Office. You must get belay checked at the SRC Rock Wall before the sessions begin. Rock Climbing cost is $3 per session, and SRC Hamess/Shoes/Beiay Device Saturdays, 2:00 pm - 4:00 pm January 26, and February 2,9,16 Forest Service Trailhead Fee Symposium In 1998, the Willamette National Forest, along with several other forests, abruptly introduced a new revenue program set up as a Recreation Fee Demonstration Program (Fee Demo). The “test” program, originally set to terminate in 1999 has recently been extended for a third time by congres sional action. The difficult issue of “pay-to-play” fees has sharply polarized the self-propelled outdoor recreation community. The Outdoor Program has invited articulate and passionate advocates on both sides of the debate to discuss the legal and recreational issues of this program. Join the OP in exploring this unique combination of popular H20 activities. Kayak polo has been described as a combination of basketball, polo and a waterfight. Their journey took them along the entire length of the rugged coastline and storm-tossed seas of British Columbia’s Outside Passage. Three of these intrepid explorers will thrill us with a multimedia slide presentation that details this exciting journey. Co-sponsored by the UO Women's Center this event is free to UO students and OP Co-op members, $2 general public.
