what it was all about and then I real
ized how big it was.”
As is customary when players get
older, it’s now Moretti’s turn to tell sto
ries about last season to his younger
teammates who didn’t experience it.
Stories are a big part of what gives the
Civil War its historical feel.
Just like the previous 104 con
tests, Saturday’s 105th affair will
again be heated and will no doubt
include moments that will turn into
tales in the years to come.
“I didn’t know anything about it. I
just heard stories and a lot of them
weren’t good,” said Allan Amund
son, a San Rafeal, Calif., native.
“You always hear the bad stuff.”
For those Ducks who are Oregon
residents, like Eugenean Chris Tet
terton, they don’t need history les
sons or motivational tactics. Tetter
ton sees the immediate difference in
his out-of-state teammates when they
take the field against the Beavers.
“As much as they say, ‘Oh, it rains
in Oregon too much’ and ‘I’m not an
Oregonian, I’m a Californian,’ that’s
all B.S.,” Tetterton said. “They come
here and they know. Their first
game, it all changes. They become
an Oregonian.”
So, as freshman defensive end Igor
Olshansky prepares to play in his first
Civil War, he claims that he feels no ill
will toward Oregon State.
“I don’t have any hatred right
now,” Olshansky said.
Think the San Francisco native
ever will?
“Talk to me after the game,” he
said with a smile.

Schedule

The Ducks have never had eight
home games in a season, and have
not played 12 games in the regular
season since 1994.
Construction on Autzen Stadi
um, which will expand the seating
capacity from 41,698 to 53,800, is
set to begin after the Civil War game
this Saturday.
“We are thrilled to offer a sched
ule that allows our fans to enjoy an
unprecedented eight home games
in a newly expanded Autzen Stadi
um,” Athletic Director Bill Moos
said. “A slate featuring strong Pac
10 competition will be blended with
several non-conference foes that
should attract national attention.”
Oregon begins Pac-10 play at Ari
zona on Oct. 5 before heading back
to Pasadena, Calif., for the second
straight year to face UCLA at the
Rose Bowl. For the third-straight
season, the Ducks are scheduled to
visit Pullman, Wash., to battle the
Cougars. And after a one-year hia
tus, the Oregon-Washington rivalry
will resume with the Huskies visit
ing Autzen.
For future reference, Moos an
nounced that Oregon reached an
agreement for a home-and-home se
ries against Purdue in 2008 and
2009. A verbal agreement has also
been reached with Colorado (a po
tential opponent at the Fiesta Bowl
this season) for the 2012 and 2013
seasons, as well as Army in 2009
and 2010.

Massachusetts led for much of
the second half, although the lead
changed five times in the last seven
minutes. UMass took the lead for
good on a Micah Brand lay-in with

Oregon was killed from the out
side Tuesday night. Crooks scored
a team-high 13 points, while guards
Eric Williams and Raheim Lamb
scored nine points each.

points after he netted 16 against
Marist on Saturday. Oregon post
Chris Christoffersen continued to
shine, as he scored 12 points and
grabbed 11 rebounds for his first
double-double of the season.
“He had a good game, but he got
a little fatigued out there,” Kent
said. “Overall it was a learning ex

The Ducks will return to the

will tip off at 3 p.m.
