elbow got the best of him.
“As you well know, A.J. was
hurt over the last couple vears, and
he lost his starting position,”
Philadelphia head coach Andy
Reid said. “However, we liked
what we saw from a mechanical
standpoint and a decision-making
standpoint. He possesses nice size
and arm strength.
“We think he has a nice upside
to him.”
Feeley will be joined by another
Pacific-10 Conference player in
UCLA wide receiver Freddie
Mitchell, who was selected by the
Eagles in the first rpund at the 25th
spot and was the only Bruin taken
in the draft.
A total of 24 Pac-10 players
were drafted over the weekend,
with every team having at least
one representative. Washington
led the way with five players,
highlighted by Marques Tuia
sosopo’s second-round pick by
Oakland. Arizona State had two
first-rounders in safety Adam
Archuleta (20th, St. Louis) and
tight end Todd Heap (31st, Balti
more).
Oregon State’s successful season
helped land four Beavers spots in
the NFL. Wide receiver Chad John
son was a second-round pick of
Cincinnati (36th overall), while
defensive end DeLawrence Grant
is headed to Oakland (third round,
89th). Beaver offensive tackle
Mitch White was picked up by%
New Orleans (sixth round, 185th)
and wide receiver T.J. Housh
mandzadeh will join teammate
Johnson on the Bengals, who took
Houshmandzadeh in the Seventh
round with the 204th pick.
Those Oregon players not draft
ed may have another opportunity
at entering the NFL if they make it
as free agents.
WNBA

ference players picked were Ari
zona’s Reshea Bristol, Stanford’s
Carolyn Moos and Washington’s
Megan Franza.
Mowe joins a 10-22 Portland
team that finished seventh in the
Western Conference last season and
failed to make the playoffs. Mowe
should make an immediate impact
on the Fire, who have only one cen
ter on the roster and only two play
ers over 6-foot-4.
“I am so excited,” Mowe told The
Register-Guard. “I’m going to Port
land. My friends and family can see
me play. It’s really awesome.”
Mowe will likely play behind
Sylvia Crawley, a 6-foot-5 for
ward/center. Crawley led the Fire in
rebounding last season and finished
second in scoring. Crawley could
also play power forward next sea
son.
“Jenny’s going to give us great
depth at the post position,” Port
land head coach Linda Hargrove
said. “She’s going to create a lot of
problems for the opposition. ”
Portland also drafted Southwest
Missouri State guard Jackie Stiles,
the career NCAA scoring leader,
LaQuandra Barksdale of North Car
olina, Pepperdine’s Kasheed Clark
and Rutgers’ Tasha Pointer in one of
the league’s most highly touted draft
pools.
“It’s such an honor,” Mowe said.
“I’m so proud, so grateful.”
Wolvert joins a more successful
Cleveland team that was 17-15 last
season, good enough for second in
the Eastern Conference.
“Angelina Wolvert is a really in
teresting third-round pick because
you’re talking about a player that
has a lot of versatility as a post play
er with the ability not only to play
on the block but to face-up and to
score,” Rockers head coach Dan
Hughes said.
As second- and third-round
picks, Mowe and Wolvert will be
given two-year contracts worth
$33,000 and $29,700, respectively.
They can earn an additional
$10,000 bonus if their teams reach
the WNBA finals.
Both players will report to train
ing camp May 2.
