Flux magazine captures
Pacemaker for eighth time
The staff of the 2000 Flux maga
zine, which is produced by Uni
versity students through the
School of Journalism and Commu
nication, won the prestigious
Pacemaker award and picked up
the Columbia Scholastic Press As
sociation’s gold medal and four of
the organization’s All-Columbian
Awards.
Sponsored by the Associated
Collegiate Press, the Pacemaker
honors the nation’s best collegiate
magazines and newspapers. It is
the eighth year in a row that Flux
has received the award.
Feature stories in the winning
Flux included a look at coyote
management, a profile of a chemi
cal weapons depot in Eastern Ore
gon and the rebirth of natural life
on Washington’s Mount St. Helens
20 years after the volcano’s erup
tion.
Several members of Flux’s 25
person staff also won individual
awards for their efforts in photog
raphy, writing and layout.
