contacted six to 10 subjects with open
containers of alcohol in the west
grandstand at Hayward Field.

Monday, April 2,1:20 a.m.: A student
reported a burglary had occurred
during spring break in his residence
hall room.

City Council moves closer
to approving Bus Rapid
Transit Line
The Eugene City Council decid
ed last night during a general work
session that city staff will have con
trol over changes made in Bus
Rapid Transit Line within Eugene
city limits.
The BRT plan has been devel
oped by the Lane Transit District
and Eugene city staff as a speedier
and more environmentally friendly
transportation system than the cur
rent bus system, LTD spokesman
Ed Bergeron said. The plan has yet
to be approved by Eugene and
Springfield city governments, but
Eugene City Council members said
they are ready to support the plan
after certain changes are made.
Concerns about the plan range
from how to pay city staff who have
been working on the planning and
development of the BRT Line to
giving city staff final say on changes
made to the design plan. Currently
there is no extra pay for city staff
working on the BRT planning com
mittee.
The BRT planning committee
has planned another work session
with the City Council on May 30.
Teens admit roles
in Bend homicide
BEND — A 15-year-old charged
along with four other teens in the
death of one of the youths’ mother ad
mitted to police that he pulled the trig
ger, according to an indictment docu
ment obtained Monday by KATU-TV.
According to the document, Seth
Edwin Koch told police he shot 52
year-old Barbara Ann Thomas in her
rural home on March 26 after he and
Thomas’ son, Adam Squires Thomas,
bludgeoned her with a glass bottle.
He told police that the motive for
the killing was to steal Thomas’ car.
Koch, 18-year-old Thomas, and
three others—Justin Alan Link, 17;
Lucretia Anne Karle, 16; and Ash
ley Marie Summers, 15 — are
charged with aggravated murder,
kidnapping and robbery. They were
arraigned Monday.
The document obtained by KATU
TV detailed interviews conducted by
Deschutes County investigators.
According to the document,
Thomas admitted striking his moth
er in the head with a glass bottle,
and two other teens confessed to
playing roles in Thomas’ death.
Summers admitted to making
plans to kill Thomas and acting as a
lookout for the victim’s arrival at the
home between Bend and Redmond.
Karle told investigators she came
up with a plan to put Thomas in a
bathtub filled with water and elec
trocute her by putting a portable
stereo and hairdryer in the tub.
Investigators who searched the
Thomas home for evidence found ex
tension cords plugged into a stereo
and hairdryer near the bathtub.
Deschutes County District Attor
ney Mike Dugan said a .308-caliber
rifle that was recovered is believed
to be the murder weapon.
