to triple digits when he drained
three of his nine points at the 1:06
mark.
One player who appeared to be
in mid-season shape was junior
guard Freddie Jones. He showed
that he might finally reach his po
tential this season, as he recorded
15 points, grabbed seven re
bounds, as well as having two
steals and a block.
Jones woke up the relatively dor
mant crowd a few times with his
usual array of high-wire acts, in
cluding some smooth reverse
layins that left the defending
Ukrainians in awe.
“That’s always a good feeling,”
Jones said. “The fans enjoy it, my
teammates enjoy it, so of course
I’m going to enjoy it too.”
Jones also demonstrated that he
can give it up too, as he lobbed a pic
ture-perfect alley-oop pass to
Bracey, who then threw it down for
the two-hand slam to give the Ducks
a 63-33 lead early in the second half.
Kent was impressed with the
way his players played together, re
gardless of which line-up was on
the floor.
“It’s a system of interchangeable
pieces,” Kent said. “That’s the
beauty of our system. For them to
play this well this early is a great
sign. We love to teach and they’ve
been great students. ”
Oregon’s next “test” will be Nov.
14, when the Ducks host Athletes
in Action at Mac Court in their sec
ond and final exhibition game.

in the first half. The junior missed
three shots, one a wide-open three
pointer.
But the newcomers settled down
in the second half. Davis made six
of-seven shots, including 4-for-5
from three-point land in the half.
Michaelis ended the game with four
rebounds and Jackson put together a
solid game, scoring nine points and
making all four of his free throws.
Ridnour, the Ducks’ most touted
recruit, ran the team’s offense like a
fourth-year player from the start of
the game.
“I had to perform right away,” Rid
nour said. “For me, the nerves went
away as soon as the ball went up."
Ridnour created some of the most
exciting plays of the game, includ
ing a behind-the-head pass that
Julius Hicks laid in late in the sec
ond half. Ridnour also had a scoring
play of his own that made the crowd
gasp, when he laid in an off-balance
shot when he seemed already out of
bounds with three minutes left in
the first half.
The freshmen scored the Ducks’
last nine points, to help Oregon
break the 100-point mark for the
first time since the team put up 101
against Denver last December. Davis
drained two threes in succession
with two minutes left, and then
Jackson added one of his own with
just over a minute left to end Ore
gon’s scoring.
Kent was pleased with the second
game he was watching Monday night.
“You look at a guy like Ridnour
and how he can handle himself out
there,” Kent said. “With Davis, the
way he shoots the ball, and Jack
son... As composed as those fresh
man play, I thought they did a very
nice job.”
Sports brief
If history is any indication, the
Oregon men’s golf team is on track
for another top-5 finish.
The Ducks hold down eighth
place at the Prestige at Palm
Desert tournament in Palm Desert,
Calif., after two rounds of play.
Oregon trails sixth-place Van
derbilt by two strokes after 36
holes of play at the Prestige, and
are only eight strokes behind
fourth-place Northwestern.
The Ducks finished fifth at the
Pepperdine Intercollegiate last
month, despite an eighth-place,
first-day performance. Oregon has
finished fifth or better in each
tournament it has competed in
this fall.
Individually, the Ducks are
playing as a pack. The six players
are separated by only four strokes,
but the lowest is 21st and the
highest is 52nd.
Senior co-captain T.J. Duncan
leads the Oregon players with a
two-round total of 146, good
enough for 21st.
Junior Aaron Byers and senior
Matt Genovese trail Duncan by
one stroke, and are tied-for-26th.
A stroke behind Byers and Gen
ovese, sophomores Chris Carna
han and John Ellis are tied for
36th. Junior Brandon Harnden is
the last Duck golfer, but his 150
earned him the tournament’s 52nd
spot.
Stanford and California-Irvine,
co-hosts of the tournament, sit in
first and third, respectively, head
ing into the tournament’s final
day. Pepperdine (2nd), Northwest
ern (4th) and Washington (5th)
round out the top five.
The Prestige at Palm Desert will
conclude today with one 18-hole
round.
