The EMU Craft Center is a comprehensive Arts Program offering
well equipped facilities and workshops in most areas of the Visual Arts.
Our program is both educational and recreational, encouraging all levels
of interest, from beginning hobbyist to serious artist. Our intimate,
informal workshops are taught by accomplished artists and crafts
people. The emphasis is on high quality individual instruction designed
to encourage you to pursue your creative side. Most workshops are
offered in the late afternoon or evening to fit your class or work
schedule. We also offer $5 introductory workshops (see back page for
listing). So, if you have an interest in art, or a favorite hobby, the EMU
Craft Center at the University of Oregon is for you.

The Craft Center's "Week Nine" Summer workshops are special courses designed
to give students daily opportunities to learn a new skill or to gain insight into another
area. Most Week Nine courses do not require Craft Center membership. See full

Learn to overhaul bearing sets, adjust gears and brakes,
and true your wheels. Bring your bicycle to each class, and
wear grubby clothes. Please allow $5 for replacement

Speed Quilting

Classic quilt patterns & piecing techniques combine to
produce a traditional quilt quickly. The first class will
include discussions of patterns, color, and fabric require
ments. Outside sewing time may be necessary. 15 hours of
instruction. Term pass required.

Sewing is easy and fun! We'll cover pattern selection, fabric
choices, and sewing machine operation. Choose a project &
then work on it from start to finish with your instructors

Beyond Tie Dye
Lana Elder
Set creative with fabric! Explore textile dyeing techniques
in this introductory class. Students will learn resist dyeing,
brush techniques, masking with discharge pastes, and dye
mixing. We will provide silk, cotton A dyes used in class. Extra
materials are available for purchase. 6 hours of instruction.

Rag Rugs Week Nine
Judy Ness
Recycle your old clothing & rags while creating a beautiful
work of traditional folk art. This lovely rug will adorn your
floor or wall, or become a comfy pet bed. The rag rug is simple
to make and is a nice way to relax while making something
useful. Bring lots of rags to class! 15 hours of instruction.

Drawing the Landscape

Experience the basics of drawing while exploring our rich A
lovely landscape. We will discuss perspective A rendering
ideas while looking at trees, rivers, A parts of the U of O
campus. Expand your awareness A understanding of drawing

Calligraphy

Study the timeless art of Italic Calligraphy for formal and
informal handwriting using pen A ink. Letter strokes will be
practiced during each session. Pen nibs, holders, ink and most
papers will be provided. Please specify right or left handed

Learn the basics of the screen printing process from cut
paper stencils to photo emulsion. Work on paper or cloth. (T
shirts available for purchase.) Continuing students may wish
