Nattalie Wright sacrificed her first Pac-10 race to rabbit for Katie Crabb.

Stanford fans, the Cardinal was at
its peak in the 1,500 when Gabe
Jennings broke the race open on
the anchor leg, leading his team to
a spirited, 1-2-3 finish.
The three Stanford athletes —
Jennings, Jonathon Riley and
Michael Stember — all stood to
gether on the first place platform
when they received their awards.
Yes, it was a fun meet.
More fun
The always tantalizing partici
pant list is starting to fill out for
this year’s Prefontaine Classic,
slated to take place on June 24,
less than three weeks before the
Olympic Team Trials begin in
Sacramento on July 14.
The 26th annual Pre Classic’s
latest announced attraction is
pole vaulter Jeff Hartwig — who
set the American record of 19 feet
and 9 inches at last year’s USA
Outdoor Track Championships at
Hayward Field.
r
Hartwig currently leads the out
door world list with a vault of 19
6. He’s the fourth highest vaulter
in history, and he has indicated
he’ll be focused on breaking the
Pre Classic record of 19-6 1/4,
held by Sergey Bubka in 1994.
And, of course, Hartwig won’t
be alone in his attempt. Nick
Hysong, so far No. 6 in the world
this year, will compete as will
Swedish national record holder
Martin Eriksson (19 1/2). Former
Duck Piotr Buciarski will be there
too.

Revisiting last weekend’s Pac
10s Championships again, sopho
more Nattalie Wright sacrificed
her first Pac-10 Championship
race serving as a rabbit for team
mate Katie Crabb in the 1,500-me
ter run. It was an effort to help the
Oregon women pick up some
much needed points.
“We talked about it,” Crabb
said. “I said, ‘Nattalie, you don’t
have to do this; it’s your decision.’
But she was for it. It was very gra
cious of her.”
