Gender-bending boy doesn’t
want to go back to school
GRESHAM — A self-described
“gay boy cross-dresser” says he
plans to transfer to an alternative
school after being suspended for
wearing women’s clothes and a
bra stuffed with socks.
Brian Peters, 17, occasionally
wears pink lipstick and carries a
flowered purse to Sam Barlow
High School. But it was slipping
into a pink striped shirt, a black
lace blouse, a long skirt, low
heeled pumps and a filled-out bra
that got him in trouble with
school officials April 21.
A teacher sent Peter to the of
fice. After refusing to change his
clothes, he was suspended for in
subordination.
Peters says the suspension
amounts to discrimination and
violates his free-expression
rights.
Brockovich campaigns
against Oregon measure
PORTLAND — Erin Brock
ovich is again on a crusade. But
instead of blowing the whistle on
a major utility, she’s set her sights
on an Oregon ballot measure that
would let the state Legislature
limit civil lawsuit damages.
Brockovich — made a house
hold name by the Julia Roberts
movie — appears on a TV ad paid
for by opponents of Measure 81,
which is on the May 16 ballot.
In the blunt, common-sense
style Roberts mimicked in the hit
film, Brockovich tells Oregon
voters they are in danger of let
ting the state Legislature become
their judge and jury unless they
defeat the measure.
“Don’t give up your rights as
people,” Brockovich says. “Don’t
give your power away.”
