■ The No. 22 Oregon softball team goes
for its first Pac-10 win of the season
against the No. 11 Beavers today
By Matt O'Neill
Oregon Daily Emerald
It’s time to jump right back on
the horse for Oregon softball.
Two days removed from a
weekend sweep, the No. 22
Ducks (24-16 overall, 1-5 Pacif
ic-10 Conference) try to re
bound against Oregon State to
day at 3 p.m. at Howe Field.
The task does not get any eas
ier for head coach Rick Gamez
and his team as the No. 11
Beavers (26-12 , 0-6) come to
town looking for their first con
ference win of the year.
“We’re going to continue to
battle,” Gamez said. “The
Beavers are in the same boat we
are. Now it just becomes a mat
ter of forgetting about every
thing that’s happened, and it’s
Civil Wartime.”
Forgetting about this past
weekend is just what the Ducks
want to do because against
UCLA and Washington the
team only scored one run in
three games. But the Beavers
didn’t fare any better, dropping
all three of their games by a
combined score of 19-10.

Improved doubles play gives UO confidence
Superior play

and a shot at

By Robbie McCallum
for the Emerald
If anything dictates how the
men’s tennis team will do, it is
doubles play.
When the Ducks win the
ever-important doubles point —
which requires winning at least
two of the three doubles match
es — then Oregon almost cer
tainly wins the match.
The Ducks have captured the
doubles point in all but one of
their last 10 matches. The recent
doubles success has produced
wins in eight of the last 10
matches.
The team of sophomore
Thomas Schneiter and fresh
man Oded Teig has won nine of
its last 10 matches and are 13-4
on the season.
Senior Guillermo Carter and
freshman Leslie Eisinga have
won nine of 11, including an 8
6 upset over then-No.l Geoff
Abrams and Alex Kim of Stan
ford. At one point during the
season, Carter and Eisinga were
ranked as high as 47th.
Senior Joaquin Hamdan and
junior David Becker have also
been key in Oregon’s doubles
success.
