Sardinia's captivating natural landscape is dotted with ruins, small hospitable towns, vibrant murals, caves, and natural springs. Two UO students, Charma Boeschen and Matt White, explored the desolate backroads of the island by bicycle. After leaving Sardinia, the pair traveled from the bustling seaport city of Naples along the breathtaking cliffs of the Amalfi Coast, to the narrow, twisting, country roads of hilltop towns like Siena and San Giminano. After nearly two months they arrived at the birthplace of the Renaissance: Florence, Italy. Join us for this exciting slide show! The show follows Charlie's historic whitewater expedition to three of the most formidable rivers in the world: The Susitna in Alaska. The Alsek in The Yukon, and The Stikine in British Columbia. All three of these rivers are wild and complex, demanding commitment, focus, and performance at the highest levels. These pristine rivers are supreme examples of nature's beauty: untouched by dams, and teaming with wildlife, they are symbols of the ideal wild and free-flowing river, join us for this awe-inspiring show! Thursday. 7:30 pm: 100 Willamette Hall Leave No Trace Workshop_ Apr Planning "light hand on the landVIow impact, environmental excursions is j, something that we at the Outdoor Program strive to impress upon our trip participants. In a further effort to promote environmental ethics while J 7 traveling along trails and rivers we have joined forces with Leave No Trace Inc (LNT). The LNT west coast training team will share the nuts and bolts of low impact travel and teach us how to share environmental ethics with others. The workshop consists of an overnight low impact camping trip and an evening presentation; join us for one or both. Free! Tuesday, 7:30 pm: EMU Ballroom OP Trip Initiator’s Clinic Apr Really!? Access to all that equipment and vehicles to do trips when and where 2 j I want!? Yep! Become an OP trip initiator: it’s easy! The first night covers OP * philosophy, liability, trip planning, and procedures. Saturday we’ll go over 2 9 equipment, barn, vehicles, safety and more, then do a short fun river trip on the McKenzie. Attendance at both sessions is required to become a river trip initiator. Ifyou can't go boating on Saturday,you can still come for the morning Barn session. Cost: $12 for river trip. Thursday 7:30 pm: EMU Outdoor Program Saturday 9:00 am: The Barn Tenth Annual Rogue River Cleanup May Don't miss the Tenth Annual Rogue Cleanup: have a bash picking up trash! The Outdoor Program has officially adopted the Wild and Scenic portion of the Rogue. We float and hike the banks picking up garbage and tires between Rainie Falls and Mule Creek Canyon. Lastyear we removed 121 tires from the river! Local businesses support the effort with food, boats, and other donations. Come celebrate 10 years of OP commitment to environmental action! The sign-up sheet will be posted on April 3rd, at noon. Space is limited. Pretrip meeting is mandatory! Estimated cost $20-$30. Thursday, 7:00 am: The Barn OP River Rescue Clinic May 20 This popular clinic is a must for river trip initiators and beginning boaters alike. Ifyou run rivers,you will encounter situations that reouire rescue skills. Useful knots, rope systems, hardware, techniques, and strategies, will be covered in this hands-on, land based clinic. Space is limited and preregis tration is required. $20 for students and co-op members; $25 for nonmembers.
