Oregon senior point guard Darius Wright has a hand of late and is looking forward to
continue such shooting against Seton Hall on Friday in Buffalo, NY.
Men's recap
continued from page 4B
“When I looked at our sched
ule at the beginning of the year, I
saw those four games in the mid
dle of the conference,” Kent said.
“That was our season because I
felt that we
would have mo
mentum going
up to that point,
and if we could
weather that
stretch, we
would be OK.
“Even though
we lost at Arizona, we grew so
much as a team, and we knew we
could beat them and go down
and play with them on their floor
and it set up the game coming
back here.”
After a four game road stretch,
the Ducks returned home to rout
Washington State, spurring the
Cougars head coach Paul Graham
to proclaim that Oregon “can run
as well as anyone in the nation,
including Cincinnati.”
But instead of running, the
Ducks looked as if they were
walking in their next game. The
Huskies — led by Oregonian
Thalo Green — upset Oregon 67
58.
A trip down to Los Angeles tire
following weekend would also
end in a split. A loss at UCLA ap
peared that it could devastate the
Ducks, but Oregon came back to
beat USC without Smith, who
left early in the game with a bro
ken cheekbone.
Then came the Miracle at Mac.
Darius Wright’s three-point
prayer pushed Oregon past Ari
zona State, and Arizona lost an
18-point lead as the Ducks’
topped the then-No. 3 Wildcats,
86-81.
Oregon concluded one of the
best seasons in school history
with a convincing 85-63 Civil
War win. Now its just a matter of
time before it is seen whether or
not the Ducks can continue their
success in the postseason.
