In a season marred by un
derachievement, Washing
ton found reason to smile
Saturday night.
In the Oregon camp, Sat
urday’s loss was hardly a
laughing matter.
The Ducks shot 18 per
cent from the field in the
second half, which includ
ed a ten minute scoring
drought. They allowed the
Huskies to pull out their
biggest win of the season,
67-58, and leave Oregon
(18-6 overall, 8-4 Pacific-10
Conference) in third place.
The Ducks’ lead over Ari
zona State is now just one
game.

time this season the
Huskies played above ex

You wouldn’t believe it
by last week’s 71-47
blowout loss to a below-av
erage Oregon State team,
but Washington’s record is
better on the road (6-7) than

Within 100 feet of each other in
the basement of McArthur Court
were two warriors who have been
through many battles.
One was distraught — head
sunk in lap w'hile sitting in a cor
ner of a room waiting for his turn to
talk to the media about his team’s
devastating loss.
The other was elated — standing
tall and proud with a handful of
temporarily with about

ing the Huskies’ bloodied

On this night, it was Green who
led his Huskies (9-16 overall, 4-9
Pacific-10 Conference) to the gut
check 67-58 upset victory over the

“I had my girl pinned in
side, Jamie gave me a sweet
pass, and I was able to face up
and go baseline,” said
Wolvert, who finished with
13 points and five rebounds
in 28 minutes. “I stopped, and
I didn’t know if I should shoot
up. I pumped faked and she
flew, and I was like, ‘Oh, it’s
going in.’ But if she hadn’t
jumped at that, I don’t know.
“I’m sure whoever would
have gotten the ball was go
ing to step up and make the
shot, and I think we all were
just looking at each other
