Ducks happy to be home
■ Oregon hopes to use its
final home match to
collect its 18th-straight win
against Portland State

Home sweet home.
That’s what the Oregon
wrestling team is headed for
when it faces Portland State
tonight.
The Ducks (10-5 overall, 5-3
Pacific-10) are coming off two
losses on the road. Oregon broke
it’s six-match winning streak —
its longest since the 1990-1991
— with a loss to No. 22 Boise
State, and dropped the following
match to No. 13 Arizona State.
Despite the losses, head coach
Chuck Kearney said he still likes
how his team is performing.
“I don’t think we need to re
group after these losses,” Kear
ney said. “We just need to forget
the negatives and dwell on the
positives. I think that this team
does a great job of doing that.”
Focusing on the positive, the
Ducks are hoping to sweep the
Vikings (3-12 , 1-5) this season.
Tonight’s meeting is the second
between the two Pac-10 rivals. In
the first, the
Ducks pum
meled Port
land State
31-6 for their
17th consec
utive win
against the
Vikings.
Kearney
said that his
team has to be ready, despite the
outcome of the previous meeting.
“It’s important for us not to go
in overconfident,” Kearney said.
“Yes, we did beat them last time,
but they are going to be in better
shape, and their coach always
prepares them.”

be in the 125-pound and 133
pound weight class. True fresh
man Jason Harless (125) went 1-2
recently on the road, but Kearney
is starting to see good things for
him.
“The match at 125 will have
two good young wrestlers,” Kear
ney said. “They have wrestled
four times already and Jason has
won all four.”
Junior Adam Marino contin
ues to fill in for the injured Brian
Watson at 133-pounds. Kearney
has seen Marino improve since
being promoted to the starting
lineup.
“Marino’s got some experience
now and he’s getting better,” Kear
ney said. “You’ve got to take your
hat off to him, he’s been wrestling
up a weight class all season.”
A big concern for the Ducks is
the condition of Jake Leair’s an
kle. Leair, a 197-pounder, injured
his ankle during the road trip,
forcing the coaching staff to
move some wrestlers around.
