■ Oregon uses an electrifying second
half run to escape being swept by the
Arizona schools at home

Well, Oregon sure made it
exciting.
Maybe a little too much
so.
First the Ducks allowed
Arizona State (11-8 overall,
4-5 Pacific-10 Conference) a
34-26 halftime lead.
Then when Oregon re
turned to the court, it let a
few more anxious minutes
pass, falling further behind,
39-26, in front of 4, 569 at
McArthur Court on Sunday
afternoon.
It was starting to seem
rather plausible that Oregon

Kourtney Shreve?
Ducks believe!

■ Oregon heats up at
Arizona State with the
Ducks’ 86-73 win in
the desert
By Brett Williams
Oregon Daily Emerald
Whose House?
The Ducks’ House.
Oregon ran Arizona State
out of its own gym and put
the clamps on Sun Devils’
sharpshooter Eddie House
in a 86-73 victory Saturday
at Wells Fargo Arena in
Tempe, Ariz.
Arizona State was no
match for the Ducks on a
night when Oregon (16-4
overall, 7-2 Pacific-10 Con
ference) shot 50 percent
from the field and nailed 30
of its 39 free throws.
“It was just a great team
effort,” Oregon head coach
Ernie Kent said. “We shot
the ball well and we kept
our focus. They played like
a top team in this country,
let alone
this confer
ence. I’m
very proud
of them to
get through
this first
half of the
season at 7-2.”
The Ducks had three
players in double figures
and three more within a
point or two of that mark.
Alex Scales scored 17
points and Frederick Jones
had 14. And forward A.D.
Smith had vintage game,
finishing with 20 points and
12 rebounds.
Following the win, Smith
was humble about his per
formance.
“I really didn’t shoot the
ball as well as you might say
I did,” said Smith, who was
7 of 17 from the field. “But
to get the double-double is
good and to get the win is
better.”
The Ducks came out
strong, securing a 33-23
halftime lead. If Sun Devils’
head coach Rob Evans was
hoping a disappointing first
half would light a fire, he
was in for a big disappoint
ment.
