    Tips for Success
The Career Fair is an excellent opportunity for you to gain
information about the world of work and future trends. It
is also a great way to make contacts. Preview this list of
participating employers to identify which organizations
you want to visit.
At the Fair
Take time to target those organizations that are of interest
to you.
• Introduce yourself. Many representatives are
University of Oregon alumni and have a
personal interest in you!
• Tell the representative if you are exploring
career opportunities and gathering
information or you are seriously seeking a job.
If you are seeking a position, launch into your
one-minute commercial. Ask questions.
• Ask about the application procedure: Be
enthusiastic—a positive attitude pays off!
• Follow up by requesting a business card or
obtaining a contact name. Do not ask
questions about salary and benefits.
Be patient and ready for lines. Visit less crowded
organizations first.
After the Fair
A survey of employers attending a 1999 multi-state fair
asked what they expected from interested students after
the fair. Here'show they responded.
• 58% expect to receive a cover letter
• 55% expect to receive a phone call
• 48% expect to receive a completed application.
