    Students can swap
books for easy cash
■ The book swap provides
students with an alternative
to selling books back to the
University Bookstore
By Jason George
Oregon Daily Emerald
For students who have high
hopes of getting some cash for
their books, the ASUO is sponsor
ing a book swap next Monday
through Thursday in the EMU
Fishbowl lobby.
The ASUO Book Swap uses a
consignment system where stu
dents decide how much they
think their books are worth. Then,
when students return for winter
term, other students can buy back
the books for the assigned price.
Also, if books are not selling for
the set price, students can reas
sign a price for their books.
“It gives the students the pow
er of getting what they want for
their books,” said Peter Larson,
ASUO outreach director.
Jim Williams, University Book
store manager, said he is not
against the book swap. “We be
lieve that we are supportive of the
book swap and we believe op
tions are good for the students,”
he said.
Freshman interior architecture
major Julie Bauer said she is in fa
vor of the program. “A girl in my
hall is going to be taking the same
class, so why not do it?” she said.
But junior fine arts major Anna
Gilmour disagrees. She said she
participated in the program when
she was a student at Portland
State University, but it is too
much trouble now.
“It takes more energy to learn
about something new, than just to
do it the normal way,” she said.
ASUO representatives will be
in the Fishbowl lobby from 10
a.m. to 4 p.m. for the swap next
week.
