Expect Tony Hartley to break
a record Saturday.
Don’t be surprised if he
breaks two. And, between
now and the season’s end, there’s a
third that he also considers within
his grasp.
When the silky smooth receiv
er takes the field Saturday, he’ll
do so needing only 33 quick
yards to top Cristin McLemore’s
career mark of 2,498 receiving
yards, first all-time at Oregon.
He needs two touchdown
catches to equal McLemore’s
first-place total of 24.
And 24 receptions will give
him more catches than any other
Ducks receiver ever.
He wants it all.
“I’d like to be the all-time re
ceiver here,” Hartley said. “I
think about the records all the
time. They’re very important.”
So pay close attention, because
he’s going to do it his way.
As calmly and coolly as possi
ble. Quietly.
“There’s no question that Tony
gets overlooked, ” Oregon head
coach Mike Bellotti said. “It’s
amazing because you look back
and you think, ‘In what game did
he get all his yardage? ’ He just accu
mulates it, and he does it in a work
man-like manner.”
That, Hartley insists, is by de
sign.
“I’m a laid-back guy,” he said.
“I’m gonna go out there and play
hard and make my plays, but for
the most part, I’m gonna stay qui
